Working local
Today was a work local day as in 27 miles local instead of commuting over 100. Work on a higher end folder/inserter with a co-worker. Spent the entire day there cleaning, calibrating and waiting on FedEx to deliver our parts order. Its a well built inserter, just needed some TLC do to the high volume of the company. It was nice to be so close to home and have so little driving. My car really needs a vacation.

In house this week
This week I am the in house tech. What that means is I get to try and trouble shoot calls by phone. Clean and test the demo room equipment. Pull and stage the new equipment to be installed. It keeps me very busy but saves me some mile on my car. Its a nice break from the road. The only down fall is leaving later than normal with the long commute means getting home later and missing valuable time with my family.

2 Day work week
This was a short week for me. Went to work Monday which wasn't very busy. Tuesday I called out due to ice conditions on the road and that worked out for me as a little later in the day I started getting major pain in my back. Somehow I aggravated the disk in my back putting me on some good muscle relaxers. I was out Wednesday and Thursday on doctors note returning to work on Friday. Friday was a little busy due to an early morning meeting and having to take over a repair from another technician who was out sick. I finally was able to get out of the office and still cover 4 service calls. Lucky for me they were easy calls. Friday was a good day.

Document Hadling
When I say document handling I mean folders/inserters. This is a machine that you can load your letters, business return envelopes and other documents and have them folded, inserted into an envelope and seal the envelope. Don't you wish there was a legit envelope stuffing job that pays. You can stuff thousands of envelope. These are really good quality machine. There is a picture to the right of the Hasler M5500 folder/inserter with a high capacity stacker. One of the many machines I am trained on. There are many other options that can be added. The type of equipment one should buy really depends on the volume and what applications you are trying to run. This is were sales does its magic. I work with a really professional sales staff and the know there stuff. If your in the market for something like this and in the Baltimore region, let me know and I can refer you. Just e-mail me with your name, business name,e-mail and phone number.

My week In A Nut Shell
Mondays are the hardest,it starts with waking up at 4:30 am and leaving the house by 5:00. First I go fuel up my 2008 Nissan Sentra. My average daily gas costs $25,so I spend roughly $500 per month. I do get re-reimbursed each month. I still have to include oil changes, tires and other service expenses. The reason for early Mondays is I have a weekly service meeting at 8 pm with 127 miles to travel with am traffic to deal with closer to work. From there I never know what calls I will have, could be anywhere. Fortunately for me I work for a great company, and they try to keep me in certain areas. They are very understanding. Tuesday Thur Friday are very routine. Busy or not I am very grateful to be employed with such a good company with great co-workers. Everyone should be so lucky

My life as a service technician
My name is Mike and I have been a service technician for 10 years. My job consists of installing and repairing office equipment, specifically document handling equipment and postage meters. Currently I spend more than half of my day on the road traveling from one call to another. However most of that time is the commute time. See I live in Delmar Maryland and my office is based out of Towson Maryland. which is approximately 127 mile from from my driveway. It wasn't always like that. 3 years ago my wife and I purchased our first home and my intentions were to do the same exact work for a different company 5 minutes from home. I was offered employment but at a much lower salary. Needless to say I have been commuting ever since. I AM TIRED of driving, but I'm doing what I have to do. This is the bases of my blog. I will talk more about the different equipment as much as I can without upsetting any of the higher up. So I hope you will follow me and my adventures as a service technician. Thank you Mike
